Single-petaled lisianthus echo tulips and poppies, while double-petaled cultivars evoke open roses and peonies. Each blossom measures 2–3″ (5–7.5 cm) and spirals open in a loose five-petaled funnel. A deeply cupped, contrasting-color center bears short yellow stamens and pistil.Plant this hybrid lisianthus in small containers and enjoy these fully double, long-lasting flowers from late spring through late summer.

Growing lisianthus transplants from seeds is tricky, even for experts. They need five to six months from seed to bloom. If you want to try, spread the seeds in mid-December to January on top of a moist vermiculite and peat potting medium and cover the container with plastic wrap.
